Mike (alias Captain Bean) was obsessed with coffee. He'd spent a lot of time chasing a perfect flavour—a balance of smoke and bright acidity that didn't seem to exist. Every commercial and speciality brew disappointed him, and sometimes it wasn't the beans' fault, as often they were stale and well past their best-before date...  Frustrated, he decided the solution was to attempt to roast his own beans.

He started in his garage with a cheap coffee roaster. His first attempts were a bit of a disaster: pale, grassy, or scorched and bitter. He meticulously logged every variable—temperature, airflow, timing—driven by the imagined perfect cup.

Months later, it happened. He pulled a batch of Columbian blended with Ethiopian beans. The first sip was wonderful; it had the depth he loved, lifted by chocolatey notes and a clean, sweet finish. He had finally discovered what he was looking for.

The incredible aroma drew friends, who quickly became addicted and demanded beans. Soon, he was fielding weekly requests that spread beyond his inner circle by word-of-mouth. His hobby had transformed into a growing waiting list of customers.

Realising his potential, Mike decided to go into business online and named his online shop Captain Bean Coffee, reflecting his superhero pursuit of perfection. He then upgraded his roaster equipment and secured several varieties of beans from trusted importers. Mike wasn't just chasing the perfect flavour anymore; he was now ensuring no one else had to settle for a mediocre cup, by only using premium beans and only roasting the day of customer order; freshness is guaranteed.
